Fatigue
fractures are caused by the simultaneous action of cyclic stress,
tensile stress, and plastic strain. The cyclic stress and strain
starts the crack, and the tensile stress produces crack
growth. Defects, pits,
imperfections, .etc are initiators of fatigue. Corrosion fatigue occurs in
corrosive environments, such as wash-out.
